Android dominates iOS with 52% market share but Apple leads in Impressions

Millennial Media (a leading mobile ad network) released its Q3 Mobile Mix report which shows Apple as the continued leader in hardware (iPhone notably being their top device).  While they did not see any gain in mobile ad impressions they still held 31.5% for mobile device impressions, which is up an iota of 31.38% from last quarter.   Google’s Android operating system however,  accounted for 52% of total impressions (up from 46 % in Q2), VS iOS’s 34% market share.   Take a look at the attached images below.   Best,  ...

62% of last months iOS Apps ‘didn’t make the ranks’

62% of last months iOS Apps ‘didn’t make the ranks’

That’s right 62%  of apps in the Appstore in October didn’t cut it.   October was probably one of the worst months for indie app developers, with 62% of apps failing to even make the ranks in Apple’s App Store. On the other hand, it was also discovered that 32% of apps were able to retain their positions in the App Store throughout the month.   Topping the list for must upward “trending” apps in the global app ecosystem was: Need for Speed Most Wanted, which reached a global position of 34 only 2 days after release.  Since then, it had maintained its spot in the top 50 paid apps.   Still not as good as Angry Birds – Star Wars if you ask me 😉 (reaching Top of app charts in 2 1/2 hours)   Today as it stands, it is: #24 in Top Games (for iPad), #39 in Top Apps (for iPad), and #40 in Top Games (for iPhone).   CEO and co-founder of Adeven, Christian Henschel...

Chartboost warns developers to prepare for Holiday Surge

Chartboost warns developers to prepare for Holiday Surge

ChartBoost warns developers to prepare for Holiday Surge   The other day I wrote an article on the the “surge” I observed over Thanksgiving.  Today I have the #’s from Charboost to deliver to you.   Figures from Chartboost of more than 8,000 iOS and Android games, Chartboost claims that Thanksgiving traffic in the US was up almost 50% when compared to the average Thursday.   However, the average CPI paid in the region dropped slightly. There are two reasons for this, explains Chartboost.   More on the #’s and ChartBoost’s opinions of indie developers and how they anticipated the Holiday surge can be found here. Best,...

CEO Mihir Shah leaves TapJoy | That’s right Tapjoy CEO Mihir Shah has resigned.

That’s right Tapjoy CEO Mihir Shah has resigned.   In an unsuspecting turn around at mobile app marketing company Tapjoy, CEO Mihir Shah resigned today.  How did it go down exactly?  Well, sources say that around 11am this morning there was an ‘all-hands-on-deck’ meeting that took place where Mark Leschley (who is now chairman of the board) introduced Steve Wadsworth as Shah’s replacement.   Shah wasn’t present during the meeting.  Wadsworth had formerly been at Disney for 17 years working in the company’s digital media and technology derpartment.  He also oversaw the company’s roughyl $700 million acquisition of social gaming company Playdom.   After leading monetization efforts at RockYou (a social gaming company) Shah made his way over to Tapjoy. Leading the transitions of business models from Facebook-Android-iOS the company had already been in discussion with bigger gaming companies (GREE included) over the past year, unfortunately none of them resulted in a deal.   With over $70 milion in VC funding from J.P. Morgan Asset Management, Rho Ventures, North...
