India to Replace US as Second Largest Smartphone Market as Smartphone Web Traffic exceeds device ownership. Android App Revenues also to hit $6.8 Billion this year.

So yeah, that’s all kind of a mouth-ful. In any case, let me give you the low-down on what you need to know about what’s going on in the mobile industry. “Phablets” (Smartphones bigger than 5″ but small than 6.99″) currently account for more than 30% of India’s total market. International Data Corporation found that the # of phablets shipped grew 17-fold over just last year. Meanwhile devices grew 30% YOY. Comparing Q2 shipments from 2012 (3.5 million) to this years, (9.3 million) it’s more than evident that it has shot up more than 50%. IDC senior market analyst, Manasi Yadav, went on to say: “The growth in the Indian smartphone market is driven by consistent performance by local vendors who accounted for more than half of the total smartphone market in Q213.” IDC senior analyst, Kiranjeet Kaur, also added: “The key for growth in this market, as with most emerging markets, is a low-priced phone equipped with a large screen and dual SIM slots.” Currently Samsung and Nokia...

iPhone and iPad Usage – The Who, What and When.

iPhone and iPad Usage – The Who, What and When.

Better late than never. Last Friday Flurry released some insights on the optimal times to reach consumers when their devices are ‘in hand’ (or at least not far). We all know that ‘content is king’ and if that is the case, then context must also be queen – especially when it comes to reaching consumers on their mobile devices. Needless to say, each device evokes its own and unique user behavior. We will talk briefly about context as it relates to iOS devices. Particularly, who uses each device, which devices are used to enact what aspects of users’ lives and personalities, and when usage tends to take place (and peak). This analysis is based on the 397 million active iOS devices Flurry currently measures activity on. It was taken during the month of May with a random sample of 44,295 of iPhone and iPad users. If you’re interested in reading ALL of Flurry’s insights in response to the data, as well as their full report – you can find...

OMG, New iPhone September 10th!?

OMG, New iPhone September 10th!?

At least that’s what she said. And by “she” I mean, Ina Fried over at AllThingsD. According to AllThingsD, we should be seeing the device making its public appearance on September 10th. This would not be far off from last years iPhone 5 launch date (September 12th). What I’m very interested in seeing is if the stock will be able to make its climb back up to what it had previously been this time last year (around $700/per share). Apple has gone through quite a bit of  internal restructuring of their top executives lately, and  CEO Tim Cook has also been receiving some pressure from the board to “innovate quicker”. Prior to that Apple did a share buy-back when the share’s were at $444, for a large amount (hundreds of millions). Before that, Al Gore made a purchase of Apple’s shares at the price of $400-per, acquiring a few hundred thousand dollars worth. In any case, as far as “spec rumors” of the iPhone 5S go, several news sites...

LEAKED Budget iPhone Video

LEAKED Budget iPhone Video

As if this is something worth writing about.. there have been two leaked videos as of late showing what the new ‘budget iPhone’ might look like. While the video itself only shows the back plate, that’s enough of an indicator for you to imagine what the rest of the phone might be like (excluding its functionality of course). As seen in the video the phone itself appears to be a blend of the newest iPod touch and the iPhone 3GS. It is likely that this ‘budget iPhone’ will replace that of the iPhone 4 and 4S as Apple continues to move forward working on the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6. Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think in the COMMENT’s...

Apple Rolls out Developer Portal Status Page

Apple Rolls out Developer Portal Status Page

Following Apple’s attempted iOS and Mac Developer Center breach earlier last week, Apple has posted an iCloud-like Status Page so developers can track Apple’s work for re-implementing Developer Portal Features. They’ve also outlined their approach as to what they plan to do to restore those same features: “We apologize for the significant inconvenience caused by our developer website downtime. We’ve been working around the clock to overhaul our developer systems, update our server software, and rebuild our entire database. While we complete the work to bring our systems back online, we want to share the latest with you. We plan to roll out our updated systems, starting with Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, Apple Developer Forums, Bug Reporter, pre-release developer libraries, and videos first. Next, we will restore software downloads, so that the latest betas of iOS 7, Xcode 5, and OS X Mavericks will once again be available to program members. We’ll then bring the remaining systems online. To keep you up to date on our progress, we’ve created...

The Apple App Store vs Google Play [INFOGRAPHIC]

The Apple App Store vs Google Play [INFOGRAPHIC]

Even if Apple only owns 18% of the App Economy it still pulls in near 400% more than Google. $5.1 million in revenue every-day to be exact. Google on the other hand, has about 75% of all app downloads – yet, only pulls in $1.1 million per day. While there are certainly more insights in the infographic below, it’s no surprise that Google Play has better search when it comes to typos in both name and category. Meanwhile, the Apple App Store has near double the users interested in mobile games (26%) vs Google Play’s 14%. Unsurprisingly, both Google Play and Apple lead their own App Store’s in number of downloads. The highest price for an app on Google Play is $200, while Apple has an app that is $999. More info in the infographic below, thanks to folks at Kinvey who provide mobile cloud...
