Freemium Apps account for 92% of App Store 98% on Google Play
According to new stats from eMarketer the App App Store has went from 77% to 92% of freemium apps that populate its app store. Google play on the other hand has gone from 89% to 98%. Both App Stores appear to have the same allocation of % to Premum apps and Paid Freemium apps with Google Play 1% Paid Apps, 1% Paid App with in-app purchases vs the Apple App Store who has 4% for those two areas.
While it’s quite known that Google Play has more of a market share than Apple’s App Store (because they have so many more devices) the Apple App Store still retains 63% of App Revenue. Google has 37% compared to 30% in June, where Apple was at 70%. Needless to say, Apple will need to do something to fight off the wide adoption of android if it plans on retaining the lead as the top grossing App Platform. (Image Below)
