Despite the fact that countless consumer surveys make the claim that most of us hate seeing ads on our smart devices, the reality of the matter is:  when it comes to paying for apps (even just .99cents) vs tolerating ads we overwhelmingly favor the free apps and tolerate the ads. This is at least according to Flurry, who has analyzed data from the past four years with pricing information for nearly 350,000 apps that use the Flurry Analytics platform. It is true that the apps found on our devices say a lot about who we are, but they also reveal our opinion of what type of monetization strategy we prefer to support. Even if Apple only owns 18% of the App Economy it still pulls in near 400% more than Google. $5.1 million in revenue every-day to be exact. Google on the other hand, has about 75% of all app downloads – yet, only pulls in $1.1 million per day. While there are certainly more insights in the infographic below, it’s no surprise that Google Play has better search when it comes to typos in both name and category. Meanwhile, the Apple App Store has near double the users interested in mobile games (26%) vs Google Play’s 14%. Unsurprisingly, both Google Play and Apple lead their own App Store’s in number of downloads. The highest price for an app on Google Play is $200, while Apple has an app that is $999. App Revenue to Double in Next 4 Years

According to a recent ‘State of the App Economy’ report from AppNation, they claim that the App Revenue will double from this years $72 Billion, to $151 billion in 2017. Leading the way, we have email, browser, and social networking apps. With that being said, commerce-enabled apps will be the biggest driver of revenues, followed by revenue from paid-downloads, in-app ads and purchase of virtual goods. Word of mouth continues to be the primary way that tablet owners discover new apps, according to 60% of consumers, with app store reviews in second at 40% and around 35% getting apps that are in the different charts. Additionally, while music and game apps are still ahead of video, the majority of mobile device owners under 45 use video apps at least a few times a week.
