As the insatiable appetite for video and mobile continues to grow, this comes as no big surprise seeing as devices are becoming faster and have better displays than what they just a couple years ago. With that being said, Juniper Research predicts that over 2 billion mobile and tablet users will watch TV and video content from their devices globally by 2017. From the looks of things, Western Europe is set to account for the majority of users and account for over 1/5th of the global user base in 2017. The data reinforces news that users are becoming more fond of devices with larger screens, with 4.5-inches as the...

Yesterday Google Announced it had reached 900 Million activation Up 400 million from this time last year. Earlier this year Eric Schmidt even said: “we’re seeing around 1M android activation’s a day“. As a result of these activation’s there has been over 48 Billion app installs for developers who use Google Play. Working hard to sway developers to choose Google Play as their first OS over iOS, we’ll see if this in addition to their new Play Games Services will do the trick. Android and Chrome Lead Sundar Pichai said: “Android started with a simple goal to bring open standards to the world. Today, it is the most popular mobile operating system in the world.” The...

Yesterday at Google’s I/O Conference Google announced it’s new Play Games Service API, which will allow game developers to save game states and sync them between different machines. Surprisingly, the service will also be available for iOS Developers (in addition to Google Play). Google made sure to mention that the game will have the usual ‘achievements, leaderboards, and multiplayer services’ that developers have come to ‘expect’ from ‘similar services’ (Game Center). With the new API already being rolled out, Google says: “it will allow for real cross-platform gaming experiences and ensure that users can easily switch between their phones and tablets without losing their game states.” Th multiplayer aspect...

Just when you thought that Angry Birds – Walking Dead was right around the corner, the company Rovio (notorious for creating Angry Birds) has made an interesting move where it will be featuring third-party titles in its own line-up. As stated no the company’s blog: “We want to help the developers to give these games that last coat of polish, publish the games and find their audience,” said Rovio’s Director of Development Kalle Kaivola. “We’re focusing on a small, select number of games, and each Rovio Stars launch will be an event of its own.” This means that Rovio will actually be assisting its partners as they’re finalizing their game and...

Living in San Francisco I hear about a new startup more often than I get an email from one of my long lost brothers in Nigeria who wants to wire me $8,000,000 and just needs to be reminded of my banking credentials (among other things). It’s not too often however that I hear about a Startup that I feel is noteworthy. Sure, we see founders, boot-strappers, and visionaries almost around every corner but how many of them have you spoken to, heard out, and felt that their IDEA was something you would invest in, yet alone have an interest in (after your conversation ended)? Well, last week I...

Ok, first of all – get your mind out of the gutter. This is a Mobile Blog and what I’m referring to is smartphone screensize. A new study from Strategy Analytics revealed that in latter part of 2012 smartphone owners were more likely to be interested in devices with a screen size measuring between 4.2 & 4.7 inches. Within that range, 4.5-inches proved to be the most popular which is an increase from 4.3-inches the year prior. I guess you could say people are craving “bigger things”. When comparing existing smartphone users and gender preference, new users were more interested in smaller screens than exisiting and men prefered size...

Seriously. I am a bit surprised myself at this one, but according to car safety review site CarSafetyRules.com who surveyed 1,000 UK drivers – found that consumers have more faith in tech firms like Apple and Google than car brands like Volvo or Mercedes to improve vehicular protection. 47.2% said smartphones have made drivers more distracted. 35.4% assume pedestrians don’t pay as much attention. 21% named Apple as the brand most likely to develop technologies to improve road safety, followed by Google at 19.8%, Volvo at 19.7% When broken down by sex, Apple top the charts with 26% women, and 17% men who expect them to improve car safety....

With nearly 800,000 apps in the iOS app store you can bet your last dollar that distinguishing yourself in the crowded marketplace will be no easy task. In order to do so, you need to have a GREAT promotional strategy. While there are certainly many different ways to promote your app, today we’re going to focus on the ones that, in my eyes – actually matter. Let’s get into it.. 1) Traditional Media (TV Advertising) One of the most obvious ways to drive traffic to your app is through traditional media. Of the options that exist TV is likely your best option, however NOT THE BEST option. ...

Today marks a very important day for TestFlight users everywhere. TestFlight has officially launched the open beta of Android for all users. After being asked on multiple occasions when this would happen, it’s finally here and should be exciting for all TestFlight users around. Seeing as there aren’t many alternatives to what TestFlight provides on Android as CEO Ben Satterfield explained : “Our goal is not to be on every platform but to help developers better than other services on the platforms we do support,” he said. “Earlier this year we announced more than 300,000 apps uploaded on iOS alone. Given our base and the strong response to the...
