Google Maps coming to an iPhone near you

Google Maps coming to an iPhone near you

As said today by a Google spokesman to the WSJ..   “We believe Google Maps are the most comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use maps in the world. Our goal is to make Google Maps available to everyone who wants to use it, regardless of device, browser, or operating system.”   According to inside sources, Google is distributing beta versions of an iOS 6 compatible Google Maps app. The WSJ claims that Google is putting the finishing touches on the app before submitting it to the Apple iTunes store. An Apple spokesman said the company doesn’t comment on apps that haven’t been submitted for approval.   Since the day Apples Maps for iOS was released people have been complaining endlessly about how “bad and inaccurate” it is.  Personally, I haven’t really had much issues with it.  I have had some but not much.  But at the same time, that could be because of the fact that I’m based here in the Bay Area where if Apple doesn’t have their local geographics right then it is most certainly...

Google may be the new Wireless Provider in town.

Google may be the new Wireless Provider in town.

The search giant Google has already met with reps from Dish Network to partner on a wireless service that could potentially “rival” wireless carriers/networks like AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.   In an interview this week, Dish Network Chairman Charlie Ergen said, “potential partners include companies ‘who would like to be in the industry’ and don’t offer wireless service.”   He did not name Google or any other of the companies. Despite the talk, there’s speculation that AT&T might partner with Dish on the spectrum offering.   Will update as more news comes in,  ...

Best Day to Release your App

Best Day to Release your App

If you’re thinking about releasing your APP anytime soon   ..it may be worth noting that you should if possibly DO NOT release on Thursdays.  Ok, so maybe no one will DIE – but – trust me, I’m going to tell you exactly WHY in just a a second.   It’s been known for a while that every other day EXCEPT Thursday has benefits (according to Chartboost).   Wednesdays have traditionally shown to be the most popular release day because it’s the day before Apple updates their ‘featured lists’ on iPhone, iPad and iTunes App Stores.  Traffic is at its lowest on Thursday, generally 7% percent below average in terms of impressions, and install rate is 3% below average. Not to mention cost per click cost bids increasing 3% above average.   The best days for people to buy stuff, including apps are….   THE WEEKEND! Tomorrow actually.  Friday is on average for traffic and installs but ad impressions increase 2%. Saturday tends to be about 7% above average for traffic & installs...

Apple Patents Intelligent Zoom Technology and Vibration Noise Control

Apple Patents Intelligent Zoom Technology and Vibration Noise Control

Apple filed two patents this morning.  Both of them sound very exciting (or confusing). The first is a design for intelligent auto-zooming for content, and the 2nd is a method for detecting and adjusting noise resulting form an iPhone’s vibration.   PatentlyApple covered the highlights of the intelligent zoom patent earlier today, “In some embodiments, the device may also be configured to track the user movements (e.g., position and velocity) and, in response to certain movements, provide feedback and/or enter or change a state of operation. For example, movement toward the device may activate more features, such as providing more options/menus in a user interface, whereas movement away from the device may reduce the number of features available to a user, such as reducing the number of menus/options and/or reducing or increasing the size of the options displayed.”   And..   “Additionally or alternatively, the display may zoom in or zoom out based on movement towards or away from the device. In some embodiments, a lateral movement of by the...

New iMacs to be delayed till next year?

New iMacs to be delayed till next year?

As spotted earlier today by 9to5mac   Retailers were expecting to receive the new 21.5″ inch iMacs by Nov 27th this month, (right in time for black Friday) and the 27-inchers later in December.  The retailers source went on to blame a welding process for the delays, which would push the iMacs into 2013. The new iMacs also have a redesigned display that features a new thinner lamination process.  The technique utilizes intense heat and pressure  to create even more seamless joins than previous techniques. Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously acknowledged in a conference call to analysts that the iMac would see “significant shortages” but did not specify why, and continued to expect that the new iMac would make its original November and December delivery dates. Something else that might slow down the product of the iMac is the new screen lamination process, which is said to be more ‘involved’ and difficult than previous iMac models.  The screen bonding used in the new imac  takes off 2mm of thickness that had formed a...
