Tablets to Outsell Laptops by 6 to 1 by 2017
For the first time ever, 2013 will be the year people buy more tablets than notebooks. By 2017 we’ll buy 6x more tablets than laptops according to reports from NPD. NPD senior analyst Richard Shim also went on to say: “The mobile PC industry is undergoing significant change,” “The rapid rise and establishment of white box tablet PCs … is putting pressure on traditional notebook PCs … resulting in cannibalization by tablet PCs.” Also according to NPD’s latest report, tablet shipments will grow 67% to 265.5 million, in 2013 and to 579.4 million by 2017. On the contrary, laptop sales are said to decline over the same period by 10% from 203.3 million to just 183.3 million. All that being said, there is still some hope for laptops.
