iPad 5 and new iPad mini coming in March, say analysts
“Our checks at CES indicate Apple will release the iPad 5 and the second-generationiPad mini this March. The iPad 5 is expected to be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4 that was released in October, while the form factor of the iPad mini should be similar to the first generation iPad mini that debuted in October.”
said analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital after having gained his insights over the past week from sources at the CES event.
Needless to say, updates to both the iPad and iPad mini in march would demonstrate a very agressive update cycle for Apple, who generally updates their iOS devices on a yearly schedule.
AND that’s the problem I have with it. AND WHY, I think consumers are starting to get fed up with this BS (for lack of a better term).
Sure..
Apple is one of the most well known brands on earth.
Apple also creates some of the best products known to man.
Additionally, Apple is notrious for creating some of the BEST marketing launches ever.
..But.
Now that they’ve changed their release cycles..
I think it’s going to take the ‘magic’ away from what traditionally and historically has always been some of he most anticipated events of the year.
Just take a look at what happened last year in September. Despite the fact that the EVENT itself (for the iPhone 5 details were announced in July, the event didn’t take place till September. But do you know what hapened in that time frame?
I do.
From the beginning of their pre-pre launch campaign up untl their post launch close their stock went from $595-702. Quite a big climb no?
I think so.
It wasn’t much longer after Apple was declared as the first company that could hit a “trillion dollar market cap” that their stock quickly began to crumble.
The pundits came in like a storm, talking about everything from..
- Lame lightning bolt adapters (or lack thereof)
- Apple Maps (worst mapping service ever created)
- Data issues on some carriers
- and more..
..but that’s not what we’re to talk about today, even though to me this was all pretty forseeable.
It’s likely the iPad 5 will be lighter and thinner while the iPad mini will retain its current design while improving internal hardware.
Rumors around the retina display are a big one obviously. In addition to the iPad, and iPad mini, the iPhone 5s will also likely retain its current design but feature improved components and new color options.
