Apple accounts for 20% of All US Tech Sales by Revenue
According to a new report by NPD, and given the expected performance of consumer interest in their smartphones (The iPhone – 3GS,4,4S, and 5) and tablets (the iPad, and iPad Mini) perform so well, that they apparently account 19.9% of all US consumer tech sales based on revenue. These results, needless to say, far outpace any other company even Apple’s arch-rival Samsung which did, (for the record) saw similar gains, but remained at about 10%.
It’s also worth mentioning that the rise in revenue of these two giants came at the expense of several others, including: HP,Dell and Sony, which saw a combined drop in revenue of $9.5 Billion.
Of the five main categories of US consumer electronics, only tablets and smartphones showed any growth compared to last year. Both notebooks and desktop computers saw significant decreases from last year. Most notably, desktop computer sales saw a drop of 11% compared to a 9% gain in 2011. Notebooks, also dropped 9% from a 2% drop the year prior.
