So Much for the “One” Phone to Rule Them All | HTC Sales drop 44% in February
Ouch. Just reading that over makes me cringe a little. Personally, I would have thought that after all the effort that went into design and development for the HTC One they would have had a real winner on their hands. Unfortunately, as the saying goes – numbers don’t lie. This will be the lowest year ever with low sales figures for the Taiwanese behemoth HTC. Year-over-year HTC is down 44% to $380.4 million in sales, this represents the lowest sales figures in 3 years.
The company is hopeful that the new One flagship smartphone (set to hit shelves towards the end of March) will lift its dwindling sales.
While Q1 often proves to be a typically a tough time for handset vendors, this is usually offset by a strong Q4. However, this is of little consolation to HTC, who also performed poorly during the Q4 of 2012.
Time will inevitably tell whether or not the launch of the HTC One smartphone will indeed provide a much-needed boost for the firm’s sales figures (let’s hope it does). The manufacturer has received critical praise for its design, but it will be competing in the market alongside the new Samsung Galaxy S4 handset, which is expected to be announced next week.
