Thanks to the folks over at Fiksu for doing an incredibly insightful analysis, and providing charts to provide visual assistance for understanding.  Their analysis concluded that October’s searches ‘soared during the month’ but so did cost for conversions.  Savvy marketers knew to ride the ‘organic wave’ instead of choosing to pay higher ppc or ppm bids.

Fiksu notes that,

“Advertising is key to driving up organic search results. In order to get their fair share of any organic lift, marketers needed to continue to spend – but they could do so at a less frantic pace than during previous device launches.”

Similar to the iPhone 4S launch in October 2011, Apple’s iPhone 5 download volumes soared by 33%.  Traffic like this also surged by 29% following the availability of the much-hyped iPhone 4S.

With consumers taking several weeks to update to iOS6 this had led to a steadier, more sustained opportunity for mobile app marketers in even with the  months to come as we go into the Holidays.
