Top 10 Apps in the US | Top Grossing and Top Downloads

Top 10 Apps in the US | Top Grossing and Top Downloads

App Annie has released its latest findings for Top Ranking Apps in the US for Downloads and Top Grossing.  They have a couple charts for both Google Play and the Apple App Store.

See below.

Appstore Top Apps

Needless to say, going from Paid to Free always boosts downloads.  If users can save a buck, they’re going to do it.  Especially when the average cost per download in the App-Store is..well, $1.  This was the case for Sky Safari. Their temporary move to free pushed its rankings higher — and they continue to stay high, despite now switching back to being a paid app.

Another noteworthy app riding the trends of the viral sensation Gangnam Style, is: Gangnam Dancebooth which has made its way into spot #4.

As for Top Grossing, Clash of Clans continues to dominate the rest of the freemium based apps out there.  I’m guessing it has to do with them updating their Avatar to include a Santa hat.  After all, as a user I do appreciate when company’s take the “season” seriously.  🙂

Angry Birs Star Wars – despite having hit the TOP of the charts within 2 1/2 hours and having an incredibly strong launch is continuing its descent after its claim to fame.

Google Play Top Apps

For the most part, Google Plays ranking is a lot more stable than the Apple App Store’s (as seen in tthe picture above).  If we’re to talk about their approval process or app market ‘in-general’ there is certainly a different story, howewever as depicted above the majority of the apps in these top 10 are from large, well-known brands, which may say that Indie Developers are having to try a little harder to rank up with the big boys.

Similar to the Apple App Store, the Top Grossing apps for Google Play also happen to be games – freemium games that is.  Interestingly there is a heavy interest in gambling and card cames (poker specifically) compared to Apple top grossing is more RTS (real time strategy).
