App Annie May Indexes for Game Apps AND Non-Game Apps
Better late than never. App Annie has recently published their indexes for both game apps and non-game apps. we'll start off with taking a look at the game apps.
Having already been the most downloaded game on iOS and Google Play in April, Candy Crush Saga became the top grossing iOS Game for May. Puzzle and Dragons continued to lead in Google Play revenue. Unsurprisingly, Action and Arcade games were among the top ten downloaded games in the iOS App Store as well as Google Play.
As for revenue, RPG's (Role Playing Games) were also present in the top ten for the iOS App Store while Brain and Puzzle games appeared the most on the top ten list for Google Play. Non-traditional uses for apps came from the likes of: Fast and Furious 6 and Iron Man 3 who both clearly levarged the platform to generate awareness and engagement for their up and coming films prior to its release. Not to mention, the droves of downloads for the apps themselves.
When it comes to publishers, EA and Rovio benefited from new apps, including sequels to popular franchises such as TETRIS & Angry Birds. GungHo Online and Supercell also continued to be dominant players on the revenue front.
Here's a visual look at how things played out in the Games category.
