App User Retention Jumps 10% and Almost 50% on Android
It’s refreshing to see that app publishers and developers alike have come to the realization that they’re going to have to come up with more than a re-skinned popular app to be successful. It’s also become evident that users who download these original quality apps are returning 11x more to them than they were just a year ago. Needless to say, things have since moved away from vanity metrics like downloads and have become more centered around engagement.
A recent study by Localytics looked at a number of new users as well as their retention. Mainly analyzing:
“the users who first downloaded an app in Q3 of each year, and then identified how many times those apps were launched on the same devices through March 15th of the following year.”
Similarly, as Android begins to mature – the study found that Android user retention over the past year has also increased. In fact, lsat years 23% of users who return to an app 11 or more times has jumped up to 34% (48% growth). This places Android in the same ballpark as iOS.
