Most Mobile Phones Damaged Within 3 Months

If you plan on purchasing a new Galaxy S4 you may fall into this statistic.  Mobileinsurance.co.uk has surveyed more than 2,500 UK mobile phone owners to dive into all respondents who have broken their devices in the past 2years mostly occured within the first few months of ownership.  37% said their phone had been scatched in 3 months or less, while 51% of devices given as Christmas gifts have already been smashed, stolen, or lost already.   SEE ALSO: Apple Patents Device Dropping Mechanism   Sad to say, only 9% had insurance at the time of damage, loss or theft, while 65% were unaware that most insurance policies can only be taken out on devices under a year old, believing they could insure the phone at any time. Apple to Reject Apps That Access UDIDS Starting in May

It’s been 18 months since Apple’s first mention of deprecating the Unique Device Identifier, and now the company is said to finally begin rejecting apps that make use of UDIDs. Apple published the statement in their developer portal revealing that, starting May 1st, the App Store will: “no longer accept new apps or app updates that access UDIDs.” In lieue of this, Apple suggests that developers update their apps to make use of the vendor or advertising identifiers introduced in iOS 6. Needless to say, this announcement has been a long time coming. Apple has reportedly been rejecting apps based on the particulars of their UDID use since March 2012. But wait, there’s more..the end of the UDID isn’t the only update to App Store policy mentioned on Apple’s developer portal. Sometimes I wonder if civilization is devolving.  With Apple, Samsung, and now Google and LG all racing to build the ‘coolest’ SmartWatch of them all.  Google’s Android division is reportedly working on a smartwatch of its own. Just as we’ve heard about Apple’s supposed iWatch, Google’s device will serve as an extension to your smartphone, according to the Financial Times. I stand by my beliefs that once Google Glass hits In other news, through-out this whole month MetroPCS and T-Mobile have been in negotiation of the $1.5 Billion merger where T-Mobile is to acquire MetroPCS to expand thei 4G LTE network.  MetroPCS shareholders who owned stock before March 11, 2013 will vote on the deal April 12, 2013. It appears however, a little more than a formality is at ahand, as the merging companies have already designated a new executive arrangement to lead the combined ship. Apple Patents iPhone Drop Protection Mechanisms

It seems as these jokesters have nothing better to do with their money.  Yesterday Twitter Patented themselves, now a new Apple Patent that was filed today describes a variety of methods to protect a dropped iPhone during a fall, decreasing the damage through a number of systems. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filing was spotted earlier today by AppleInsider,  and includes a rotational mechanism to change the orientation of a falling iPhone, which would force a clamp down on inserted cables when a fall is detected. The patent delves into a number of ways Apple might be able to make a device that can change direction mid-flight, which would allow it to put its most impact-resistant surface forward to meet the ground. This could include an internal gadget for shifting mass to one end of the iPhone, an actual “thrust mechanism” that could even include a “gas canister,”  (I know sounds far-fetched right?) as an air foil that activates in free fall.   I wouldn’t expect to see...

Earlier today TestFlight announced a new product that goes by the name of FlightPath, aiming to be be a simple mobile analytics solution for developers.  If that wasn’t enough, today Quantcast is launching a new service today called “Measure for Mobile Apps“, as its name implies – it retrieves data for publishers on iOS and Android.
