LinkedIN Acquires Pulse for $90 Million

A BIG Congrats First of All. Had a chance to attend one of Pulse’s open-invite developer events a couple months ago and spoke with Co-Founder and CTO Ankit Gupta about how much progress they’ve made and how incredible of a framework/platform they’ve built to do the things that Pulse does.  If you’re not already familiar with Pulse, then you should know at the very least, it’s “a fast and beautiful way to read your favorite blogs, magazines, social networks and newspapers.”   Back to the point, LinkedIn has announced a deal to buy Pulse, at an offer of $90 million. While LinkedIN hasn’t announced any specific plans for Pulse, they note: it wants to be the “definitive professional publishing platform,” where “professionals come to consume content and where publishers come to share their content.” Other thoughts include: LinkedIn using the technology to improve LinkedIn Today, (its own aggregation service), gaining access to publishers that have already been acquired by Pulse, demographic data, and additional advertising opportunities. While the iOS App Store and Google Play continue to dominate the app store economy, Windows has noticeably been gaining momentum. Earlier today app analytics company App Annie announced that they have opened up Beta for Windows Store. With now over 130,000 apps, Windows 8 continues to increase its market share and may become one of the most talked-about operating systems in 2013. This infographic is especially for those in the UK, but seeing as how close the U.S. and U.K. are in the mobile category, it could be said that some insights can certainly be gleened from this infographic of how Americans may be ‘going about things’ as well. Two differences that HAVE been made evident is that, UK consumers show strong purchase intent but less immediacy than those in the US.  UK mobile consumers have also been found to be more committed to their due diligence than those in the US. Six years ago Apple took the smartphone industry by storm with the release of the iPhone, former market leader BlackBerry, has also just recently launched the Z10 (which many think could be a main competitor to the iPhone – alongside the HTC One). The problem is that not many seemed to have  noticed. A recent survey by MKM Partners revealed that an astounding 83% of Americans did not even know that BlackBerry had launched their new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone (or  new Blackberry 10 platform, for that matter). It was also discovered today that BlackBerry is the most undesirable smart phone, with 71% of people saying they wouldn’t consider getting a BlackBerry under any circumstances. 13.4 Billion App Downloads in Q1 of 2013

Canalys has released a new report that concludes the top 4 app stores delivered a total of 13.4 billion app downloads for Q1 of 2013. These downloads are across Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store and BlackBerry World, which are also up 11% from Q4 2012. Developer revenue also grew 9% with app revenue reaching $2.2 billion in gross returns.   Adam Daum, Canalys Chief Analyst said, “Apps have had a huge impact on the way consumers use mobile devices, what they value, and what they expect from smart phones and tablets.
