Apple Releases Stats for its Share in ‘Job Creation’ and $8 Billion Paid Out to Developers

It’s always nice to see how things like the mobile, and app industry is affecting every-day lives. People who may otherwise have no place to go. Today we’re going to take a look at a company that has clearly got their sh@t together, and is clearly helping others achieve the same. While there are a lot of stats included in Apple’s report, we’re going to emphasize the ones pertaining to the App Ecosystem. As written on Apple’s website, “Based on a study by Analysis Group in February 2012, Apple has directly or indirectly created 307,250 U.S. jobs.* These jobs — spread across all 50 states — include thousands of jobs in numerous industries, from the people who create components for our products to the people who build the planes and trucks that carry them to our customers. Apptopia to Project Apps Future Revenue / Valuation [INFOGRAPHIC]

Apptopia to Project Apps Future Revenue / Valuation [INFOGRAPHIC]

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could some-how just know whether or not an app will be a runaway success in the future?  Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a company that took a handful of metrics based on: DAU’s, Downloads, Revenue per month, and the like and was able to determine the valuation of a company if they were to sell?   I think it would be nice.  And, Apptopia thinks so too.  The company which only launched 12 months ago, and has achieved $1 million in sales ($850k to developers) is now ‘relaunching’ its website with an emphasis on a more investment/ROI-focused model, specifically how an app’s current activity in terms of the aforementioned metrics can be monetized to make a return.  At present, Apptopia is able to make a 6-month projection for an app based on data currently available, this allows them to make a 6-month projection of revenue for an app, as well as the projected monthly ad revenue for the app before ads are...

Celebrating 40 years of Mobile Phones [INFOGRAPHIC]

Celebrating 40 years of Mobile Phones [INFOGRAPHIC]

With the first cellphone having been made publicly available in 1973, and weighing in at 2.5 pounds, it goes without saying  – we’ve come a long way. Today is the official 40th birthday according to Mashable.  Evidently 40 years ago today, Mobile Phone creator Martin Cooper placed the first mobile call on the streets of NYC to his rival Joel Engel who was currently head of research at Bell labs.  Unfortunately at the time, the battery life only alotted for 20 minutes of conversation.   Since then, there has indeed been some remarkable improvements, not to mention the price for the original phone ($3,995 or what would be $8,700 today) has come down significantly to on average below 1/20th of that.  Additionally, the weight for instance (of the iPhone 5) is a mere 3.95 ounces, vs the 2.5 pounds.  Thanks to the folks at ColumnFive who has partnered with Mashable, they have compiled a Infographic that depicts the timeline and pivotal moments of the cellphone’s history.   Was your...

3 Things the Mobile Industry Can Learn From Ads in Games

3 Things the Mobile Industry Can Learn From Ads in Games

As ubuquitous as the mobile industry is becoming, and as fast-changing of a world we live in, it’s important to sometimes PAUSE for a moment, and really look and ask – “is what everyone else is doing really working?”  Often times, the ‘heard mentality’ takes its toll where firm after firm is following the others ‘best practicies’ from analysts who who get their data from the same set of people who are implementing the  meteocur practices that are imposed by no other than themselves.  The system goes around, and around..and marketers who are following the ‘best practices’ are really just following the ‘statuos quo’.  As the saying goes, if you follow the heard – you’re bound to step in some sh#t.   Today we’re going to look at things we can learn from the mobile gaming industry, advertising in particular.  So let’s jump into it.   Bye-bye Banner Ads But really, when was the last time you PURPOSELY clicked on one of those small rectangular banners on the top...

Flurry’s Latest Report – Phablets Just a Phad?

iPhone 5S Coming Soon? WSJ Thinks So

iPhone 5S Coming Soon? WSJ Thinks So

According to news from the Wall Street Journal earlier today, Apple is to begin production on its next generation iPhone during Q2 (this quarter) of 2013.  The update reiterates past claims of Apple’s next flagship smartphone having a design similar to the iPhone 5.  If this ‘iPhone 5S’ is actually to begin production this quarter then that means we could see a release this summer, perhaps as early as August.   From the WSJ, “Apple Inc. AAPL +1.09% plans to begin production of a new iPhone similar in size and shape to its current one in the second quarter of the year, according to people familiar with the device’s production, teeing up a possible summer launch for the next version of its flagship device.” The WSJ also reiterated its previous claims that a cheaper iPhone is, “in the works for this year”.  Which, if true – could be on track to launch in the second half of this year.  If that is the case, it is likely the ‘cheaper’ iPhone will have similar...
