China Passes U.S. As World’s Top Smart Device Market

China Passes U.S. As World’s Top Smart Device Market

Well, that certainly didn’t take long.  I thought I just wrote an Article a couple month ago talking about this type of thing.  Probably did.  Not sure where it is.  Let’s continue. Just days into the Chinese New Year’s (Year of the Snake) China has officially passed the U.S. to become the world’s top country for active Android and iOS Smartphones & Tablets. This historic milestone has taken place within only 12months of Flurry reporting China as the the world’s fastest growing smart device market.   In Flurry’s report they have used their entire data set of 2.4 billion anonymous, aggregated applications sessions per day across 275,000 applications around the world. They estimate measuring activity acros 90% of the world’s smart devices. As seen the in the chart above, the tipping point didn’t actually occur until the end of January but nonetheless China’s growth curve is consistent whereas the same cannot be said about the U.S.  Flurry estimates that by the end of this month (February) 2013 – China...

Apple’s Macs Hacked

Apple has confirmed a report from Reuters claiming that, “Apple was attacked by hackers who infected a “small number” of its Mac computers.  Apple allegedly believes that the same unidentified group are the one’s behind the attack on Facebook last week.  In their own words, “Apple Inc computers were attacked by the same hackers who targeted Facebook Inc, but no data appeared to have been stolen, the company said on Tuesday in an unprecedented admission of a widespread cyber-security breach.” Furthermore, in a statement Apple provided to AllThingsD on the matter: “Apple has identified malware which infected a limited number of Mac systems through a vulnerability in the Java plug-in for browsers,” the company said in a statement to AllThingsD. “The malware was employed in an attack against Apple and other companies, and was spread through a website for software developers. We identified a small number of systems within Apple that were infected and isolated them from our network. There is no evidence that any data left Apple. We are working closely with...

iOS 7 Features coming to an iDevice near you?

With the departure of Apple’s iOS Chief Designer Scott Forstall many expect some big changes on what could be on the way with iOS 7.  This is due largely in part because Jonathan Ive has taken over design responsibilities related to iOS.  At the same time, the criticism for Apple’s aging core iOS apps and highly requested features is going nowhere but up.  Below you’ll find a ‘best of’ possible iOS 7 features we could see in the near future. The one below featured by YouTube User Almanimation shows a ‘Lock Screen Drawer’ feature that gives users easier access to settings.   Another on how a potentially new contact list app might...

Additonally, there are an estimated 1.2 billion mobile gamers. The real exciting stuff though is the growth of iPhones, iPads, and their Android counterparts. Since 2007, the Apps Industry has already created over 500,000 jobs in the US. According to 148Apps.biz there are 792,398 active apps (and counting), of these – 132,963 are games. In terms of overall revenue, in 2012 it was edging towards $10 Billion with games taking over 80% of the pie, as reported by Flurry. When it comes to app consumption on both iOS and Android smart device consumers spend over 40% of all their time in games. With their favorite monetization model being.. *drum-roll* Freemium.   Of the top freemium games, 47% have average revenue per daily active user at more than 25 cents. The average cost per install is around $4 (non-incetivized no doubt for that much). iOS...
