What can be learned from Samsung’s “Fast Follow” marketing methods?

What can be learned from Samsung’s “Fast Follow” marketing methods?

It wasn’t too long ago when the iPhone 5 made it’s debut here in San Francisco at the Moscone Center. Nor was it much longer (2 hours) after that debut when Samsung’s CMO Todd Pendleton crafted their first Ad Campaign mocking the iPhone line sitters. Maybe you remember this? Or maybe a better example is this. Right after the Australian Police advised their citizens NOT to use Apple Maps for risk of putting their lives in danger. Evidently some people were being led hundreds of miles in the wrong direction into a ‘desert-like’ environment with no available water.  At the time, Apple was under A LOT of criticism from everyone under the Sun.  Luckily, Google came in and saved the day on December 21st, 2012 (The end of the world, you remember that day?) This however does require a bit of creativity...

Global Mobile Ad Revenues to growing at 400% from 2011-2016

According to Gartner, ad revs were $9.6 billion in 2012 and are set to reach 11.4 billion this year before exploding to 24.5 billion in 2016. Where we stand, the growth is at about 400% from 2011 up until 2016. Research Director at Gartner Stephanie Baghdassarian said, “The mobile advertising market took off even faster than we expected due to an increased uptake in smartphones and tablets, as well as the merger of consumer behaviors on computers and mobile devices. “Growth in mobile advertising comes in part at the expense of print formats, especially local newspapers, which currently face much lower ad yields as a result of mobile publishing initiatives.” Exact figures can be derived from the image...

Unlocking phones without carrier approval ILLEGAL – [Starting tomorrow]

Unlocking phones without carrier approval ILLEGAL – [Starting tomorrow]

Starting on Saturday January 26, 2013, a policy update to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act will make it illegal for owners of new cellphones to unlock their devices unless authorized by their carriers.  If you are in the process of deciding whether or not you should get your phoned unlocked, then I’d suggest DO IT – today.   For those of you who do not have any idea what “unlocking” means it basically allows your phone to be ‘unlocked’ from being with one carrier, and instead use any 3G or LTE signal that is available in your area.  Meaning: you could use AT&T in one neighborhood, Verizon in another, and Sprint in the next.   Approved last October, the new policy applies to newly purchased devices, but not to smartphones owned prior to the deadline. There was a 90-day window in which people could still buy a phone and unlock it, but it closes tomorrow (on January 26). Now, it’s not like it is going to be impossible to...
