“If your company hasn’t gotten on board with the mobile bandwagon, then you’re pretty late.” – Flurry

“If your company hasn’t gotten on board with the mobile bandwagon, then you’re pretty late.” – Flurry

That’s a pretty strong sentiment for people who haven’t gotten on the app/mobile band wagon.  Living in a digital age, in a digital world, with digital insights aiding our decision making every-single-day – it seems blatantly obvious WHY any business with the budget to do so would want to harness the power of mobile applications. Simon Khalaf CEO of Flurry gave a talk last Thursday at the Flurry Source 13 conference in San Francisco where he instilled some key observations, ” “You go to any airport and any country,” and “It feels like the PC is gone.” While the US still leads in in mobile devices with 181 million units compared to China’s 167 million, UK’s 35 million, and Japans 28 million. According to some analysts in the next 2 years China will surpass us in the leading device holders, as well as smartphone users. Last year alone, China grew 293% in iOS and Android device activations. Vietnam and Columbia also grew a remarkable 269% and 260%. When you...

Facebook and Voxer part ways.

Facebook and Voxer part ways.

Not too long ago Facebook included a major update to their messenger app which gives (gave – they included a newer update since, which allows you to call people in the US through WiFi) facebook messenger the ability to leave short voice messages. I’m sure it won’t be long before the same thing happens to Zello, and HeyTell (providing they’re engaged in the same type of data agreements as Voxer was). The move to cut off Voxer (first reported by AllThingsD) is a sign that Facebook won’t be as open about companies using its powerful data. Facebook later told TechCrunch that, “it won’t give access to data to any company that doesn’t share much back.”   Voxer remarked, “it doesn’t view itself as a competitor to Facebook and Facebook Messenger.”   Voxer is a San Francisco based startup that’s raised $30 Million in funding from investors including: Institutional Venture Partners, Intel Capital, SV Angel, CrunchFund, Chris Dixon, and Roger...

Traffic. Because long reviews from strangers suck!

Traffic. Because long reviews from strangers suck!

Maybe you just had the best sushi ever. ..maybe you just took your car in to get serviced at a particular dealer (whose name I won’t mention) and noticed that you now have more things wrong with it than when you got there. ..It could be that you just heard an amazing indie band, attended an awesome event, or discovered a cool new venue. Whatever the case.   Whatever the reason.   Whatever it may be.   Traffic has you covered. Traffic provides users the ability to quickly and easily submit “the green light” ..or yellow, ..or red to those in their social networks (hopefully your friends).  After speaking with Co-Founder Ryan Dodds about a variety of things including: competition, distinguishing factors, and the like.. it was clear that Traffic’s aiming to harness the power of opinions and reviews of those people that actually mean something to you.   “The easy and fast way to share and discover meaningful recommendations on places with friends.” As states on their website.  ...

LINE reaches 100 Million users

LINE reaches 100 Million users

Just over 19 months ago if you asked someone “Do you have LINE” they might think you’re using some tricksy slang for drugs (probably heroein).  But now, after domianting the Japanese markets and being one of the leading contenders with other messaging apps such as: WhatsApp, IMO, KaKao Talk, etc.. While Naver (LINE’s creator) has yet to share details as far as daily or monthly active users LINE’s number put it up there among the top messaging apps to keep an eye on.   If you’ve never heard of LINE, then let me sum it up for you.. Free voice calls Basic messaging with a twist, (sillier emojis and stickers than the rest) Whether it’s.. Teddy bears Bunnies Juggling eggplants ..or even PSY from Gangnam style.   While most stickers are free some are paid.  Which is what actually turns out to be the secret to the apps tremendous financial success. Naver stated back in july that they were pulling in $3.75 million a month in sticker sales. Evidently...

What do you get when you cross apps with a groupon-like discovery model? Wurlpool.

What do you get when you cross apps with a groupon-like discovery model? Wurlpool.

Having made their appearance last night at the Tech Cocktail event I began to wonder, could Wurlpool be an app developers best friend? Maybe.  Let’s walkthrough how it works..   Users receive instant updates of new app giveaways as push notifications.                                  (this is the same type of notification you get when: someone texts you, a new email arrives, or facebook notifies you that someone just tagged you in a pic from that crazy party last friday night) Users are then able to ‘enter to win’ these otherwise premium apps. Users are shown how much time is left until the promotion is over. Redemption codes are sent out to the winner(s) email address(es). Rinse and Repeat – a new giveaway starts all over again.   Pretty simple right?   Right.. But let’s really look into this, because I’m sure you’re wondering..   How do I know they’re not going to spam me with...
