King.com’s Candy Crush – Crushes Zynga as Top social-mobile game.

King.com’s Candy Crush – Crushes Zynga as Top social-mobile game.

When we think of mobile gaming, one usually thinks: Zynga, Kabam, Gree, Disney, EA, ..but King? Never really heard of them (kidding). As noted earlier by the folks over at VentureBeat: AppData has recorded that the DAU (Daily Active Users) for King.com’s ‘Candy Crush Saga‘ was an astounding 9.7 million while FarmVille 2 was behind by close to 1M at 8.8 million DAU. Texas Holden Poker (also by Zynga) had 7.1 million. As far as MAU (Monthly Active Users) Zynga still dominates with FarmVille 2 being at 41.8 Million, Texas Holden Poker at 35.2 million and Candy Crush Saga just above 1/2 (with 5M MAU) at 25.8 million. If you haven’t played this game, let me tell you – it’s suitable for all ages, and the simplicity is what makes it so great. You could say it’s similar to bewjewled (where you match three jewels together) – but with candy, and on steroids. CEO Riccardo Zacconi has this to say on the signifance of their DAU #’s: “We’ve...

Pathmapp private beta goes live!

Pathmapp private beta goes live!

After making their Debut at the Tech Crunch Disrupt event last year PathMapp has officially launched into private beta. Needless to say, the private beta will allow the PathMapp team to gather useful insights on how users interact with and use Pathmapp to their advantage. Ultimately, this will lead to a better platform when they launch their public beta.  Pathmapps’ private beta provides access to their SDK and documentation from which their testers can install Pathmapp onto their iOS applications.   Once the SDK is installed and the new build of the iOS application is deployed to users, Pathmapp enables testers to do some amazing things – such as: Upload New Screen Interfaces – Our testers can create and deploy new versions of their screens without having to upload new versions of their application to the App Store. Live Configuration – We provide a snapshot of every screen and screen version available to an application, from which our testers can pick the screen versions to display to devices....

Does size matter? Phones. Tablets. and ‘Phablets’

Does size matter? Phones. Tablets. and ‘Phablets’

It seems like just a couple days ago I was talking to with a friend about how awkward the iPhone 5 feels to type on compared to the iPhone 4 or 4S.  Sure a bigger screen is cool and all, but when you change the size of a device like the iPhone by the height alone – something just feels out of place. When we look at  phone’s in the 5-inch+ range there are some fairly interesting things to be aware of.  “Phablets” (as they’re being coined) has predicted shipments of 60.4 Million in 2013 (according to IHS iSuppli).  This is the equivalent to a 136% year-over-year growth on the 25.6 million shipments that occured in 2012 (just last year). The data for the figures above comes from last weeks CES event where Huawei had its debut for its enormous 6.1″ Ascend Mate smartphone, (which is only 2cm small than the Kindle Fire tablet). IHS iSuppli Director of small and medium displays said,   “The move to ofer larger-display...

App Annie now features App Sharing

App Annie now features App Sharing

App Annie’s sharing feature allows you to share your app’s data with someone else without having to share your App Annie log-in or store credentials (for iTunes, or Google Play). You can now share a single app or many apps, and even mix apps from different platforms.  The recipient’s dashboard will also be automatically updated so everyone has the latest stats.   App Annie notes tha they received a lot of requests for this feature and that i will really help you if you need to:   Share app data with another person in your organisation You look after the publisher account, but finance is always asking for reports.   Share a specific app or a sub-set of apps with an specific product team You have two development teams. Now you can share data so that each team can only see the apps they work on.   Publish apps on behalf of someone else You’re a 3rd party publisher or an agency publishing for clients. Now you...

Google Glass Coming to Developers this Month

Google Glass Coming to Developers this Month

Google announced plans yesterday (Tuesday) to hold a “Glass Foundry” in San Francisco and New York in the coming weeks which will be two full days of hacking to allow developers to get an early look at the Glass and start developing for the platform.   The first day will more so be an intro to the features Project Glass has and is capable of; while the 2nd will delve into the Mirror API which evidently “gives you the ability to exchange data and interact with the user over REST”.  Google engineers will be on site for assistance to any developers who need it.   Developers who were in attendance of Google’s IO conference last year were able to order the ‘Explorer Editions’ of the glasses for $1500.  Those glasses are expected to ship to developers early this year, however, the exact date is still undetermined.   Glass Foundry will be held in San Francisco from Jan 28th-29th and in New York from Feb. 1 to 2. Developers who...

How can Apps Helps MY Business? 7 Ways to Increase Revenues and Increase Profits

How can Apps Helps MY Business? 7 Ways to Increase Revenues and Increase Profits

Often times businesses small or large are reluctant in deciding whether they should jump on the app band wagon or not.  Today we’re going to outline 7 ways how HAVING an app can grow your bottom line/ increase your businesses revenue, and maybe even marginal profits.   1) Geo-Targeted push notifications   This simply means alerting your users/customers when they’re in a specific area, (perhaps around your retail location)?  With a 97% read-rate this is something you DEFINITELY want to take advantage of. Sure email is still in, however you can’t compete with a read rate like 97%; especially when you consider the average for the MOST EXCELLENT of email marketers is below 30%.   So what are some ways you could use this type of feature?   Imagine.   A band on tour could notify fans in a particular city that their tickets are nearly sold out or remind the concert-goers to show up early so they don’t miss the opening act. A Health and Fitness Club could...

RIM sees 15,000 Apps submitted for Blackberry 10 in 2 days

RIM sees 15,000 Apps submitted for Blackberry 10 in 2 days

You remember a few days ago, or late last week when RIM tried to bribe developers $100 for every app that was approved? Well, it looks like it’ working. Their incentivized online ‘port-a-thon’ hosted by RIM has seen more than 15,000 apps submitted for BlackBerry 10 in just 37.5 hours (just under 2 days). Alec Saunders RIMs VP of developer relations noted that while there were 15,000 apps submitted not all of them were likely to pass RIM’s vetting process. Given, if they were to give away the $100 to all the 15,000 developers that would be $1.5 million, maybe more depending on other variables. Sure pundits say this is a sign of how ‘eager’ RIM is to get developer support (apps made) on their platform, but the fact of the matter is..they DO have some catching up to do, so I see nothing wrong with...
