Over Christmas however, the Kindle Fire HD 7″ exploded in market share with 322% (compared to 8.7% and 8.5% for the previous Galaxy S’s).   Of iDevices, The iPad 2 proved to be the most popular among consumers with 49% adoption.     As for iPhones, the iPhone 4S still has 2x (40%) share over iPhone 5(18%) while the iPhone 4 is not far behind with 36%, and 6% of people still using the iPhone 3GS.   All in all, some interesting stats.  It’s interesting to know where the market is at when it comes down to specifics of device...

Newest Apple Update aims to stop scammers but hinders legit developers

Newest Apple Update aims to stop scammers but hinders legit developers

“Beginning January 9, app screenshots will be locked in iTunes Connect once your app has been approved. New screenshots may be uploaded when you submit a binary for an update to an existing app or a new app.”   Apple’s newest update (as of Today) in a nutshell: means that the screenshot pictures you upload with your app, are going to be the one’s thay stay there.  Yes, that means no updating screenshots for different seasons, newer updates, etc.. Evidently this is in an attempt to stop developers whose aim is to scam people into downloading their app under the premise of the users believing it is is another app.  This is most notorious for happening with  Minecraft asa frequent target of clone apps, with developers lifting screenshots from the game to promote an unrelated game. One example, cited by Panic Blog, showed a game called Mooncraft with a Minecraft app image that billed itself as “a moon-themed Minecraft-type game for iOS.” But as a Panic video shows (see below), the game was...

Windows App Store hits 100 Million Downloads

But who really cares about windows any way right?  I mean, as a Developer why would you want to waste your time with a market that is a fraction of a fraction of the competitors (Apple App Storea and Google Play Market).  Well, surprisingly enough – there are a number of reasons.  And instead of trying to explain it to you myself, let me introduce this great Infographic brought to you by the folks at Pocketgamer.biz.  ...

Appboy launches customer segmentation for Mobile App Developers

Appboy launches customer segmentation for Mobile App Developers

After reading a horribly written article on Tech Crunch that just goes waaaay too much into details, I thought I’d elucidate my findings and give you the skinny of how Appboy can be useful to you as a developer. But first, who/what is AppBoy?   Appboy is a customer relationship management platform for mobile apps that combines messaging, audience segmentation, analytics, and user support in a single, integrated solution. To avoid boring you with everything that Appboy allows you to do, let me provide a summation instead. Appboy allows you to seperate your sharers from your spenders and your influencers from your fans.  Wouldn’t it be great if you could send the right message to the people who spend the most? Or even better, a call to action influencing your social media butterflies to share what you have to say? Well, now – thanks to Appboy you can.  You can do just that; and more. To find out more (if you feel so inclined) I’d strongly urge you to...

Onavo monitors Game Genres that attract the most lucractive players

Onavo monitors Game Genres that attract the most lucractive players

Onavo (a Sequoia backed company) tracks the usage of millions of apps through its mobile data compression products.  Onavo compares the market penetration rank-the top grossing charts. Unlike companies like Flurry, Onavo creates consumer-facing products and doesn’t work directly with developers, the company can publish data on active usage for specific apps. After monitoring the game usage among U.S. iPhone users in November they looked at the market share, or the percentage of their U.S.-based iPhone owners that use these games on a monthly basis.   I.e. (In the chart below) They found that Angry Birds Star Wars was being actively played by 3.9 percent of U.S. iPhone owners every month. The then compared that to the game’s ranking for top grossing charts. This allow them to see roughly how strong average revenue per user (or ARPU) is for each title.   The most widely played games like Angry Birds Star Wars, Subway Surfers and Bike Race Free were (surprisingly) not among the top, top grossing games on a...

Apple working on less expensive iPhone [Rumor]

Apple working on less expensive iPhone [Rumor]

As reported several times over the last few days by the Wall Street Journal: the plans for developing a new cheaper version of the device apparently have now advanced. “The cheaper phone could resemble the standard iPhone, with a different, less-expensive body, one of the people said. One possibility Apple has considered is lowering the cost of the device by using a different shell made of polycarbonate plastic. Many other parts could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models.”   The real question is, will this cheaper version of the iPhone have the same screen dimensions as the current iPhone 5?  Will it be smaller (reverting back to the screen size on the original iPhone all the way up to the iPhone 4S)?  Who knows.  While the Wall Street Journal states that Apple could still drop the idea, Apple has supposedly been planning a less-expensive version of the phone since at least 2009 in an effort to: “grab market share and hook people on the brand.”...

Chartboost raises additional $19 Million from Sequoia Capital

Chartboost raises additional $19 Million from Sequoia Capital

The additional funding is said to be used for: further product development (more so in the areas of in-app monetization and analytics).Chartboost was founded in 2011 by Maria Alegre (CEO) and Sean Fannan (CTO) both former Tapulous employees.  Chartboost is not just another ad network, but a technology platform providing free ad-serving technology. Developers can use Chartboost’s SDK in their own apps to promote other apps for cross-promotion purposes.   Chartboost gives developers the ability to have their apps displayed in a way that is outside the norm of simply searching for it via the keywords, and having it show up in the “list”. Users discover developers apps (primarily games) through the integrated ads shown in apps from Chartboost’s...
