Apple reveals next-gen wireless charging – Patent

Apple reveals next-gen wireless charging – Patent

Finally. Seriously, do I have to say it again? Finally.   I mean, you would think that they would have had this technology pre-iPhone 5 release.  But no.  Apple likes to release things ‘fashionably late’.  Any way, the scoop is – they filed a new patent application that outlines  charging low-power devices from a near-field magnetic resonant (MFMR) power supply.A few watts of electricity could be transferred wirelessly from a NFMR power source, operating about a 6ft away from the receiving device vs being connected. The patent was published this week by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and discovered by AppleInsider.   The filing notes that: “a realistic and practical approach to wireless transferring usable amounts of power over distances suitable for limited applications can be realized.” Potentially more than one device could be charged simultaneously with this technology.  Although, considering the current watt limitations, it’s possible such a technology could only be useful for charging an iPod, iPhone, or possibly even an iPad mini.   ..But likely not a full-sized iPad,  at least...

iOS and Android userbase hit 750 Million

iOS and Android userbase hit 750 Million

iOS and Android userbase hit 750 Million   Flurry has reported that there are 750 million iOS and Android activated devices.  This comes from over 220 countries and it is said that these users will generate $10 billion in revenue this year alone. The report has also shown that China is set to overtake the US as the nation with the MOST # of active iOS and Android devices (see chart below).  As it stands, the US has 181 million devices with China just behind with 167 million.  The UK unfortunately is  far behind in 3rd with 35 million active iOS and Android devices.     Flurry analytics predict that China will claim the top spot by the end of Q1 in 2013.  I’d imagine if we weren’t in the holiday season that it would take place sooner.  Flurry states that the growth is spurred by China’s vast population and growing middle class which I don’t think will be slowing down anytime soon.  ...

Apple App Store vs Google Play

Apple App Store vs Google Play

One would think that the Apple App Store would be the leading App Store in the mobile device and app industry, and..they’d be right.  It’s revenue is actually 4x that of Google Plays.   BUT. (here’s the kicker)   Google Play has had a 311% growth spurt since January of this year.  While iOS revenues growth this year have been modest with 12.9% in the same period.  In the last month, Google Play revenues have grown an aggressive 17.9% while iOS revenue contracted by 0.7%.   It was also reported that Japan ousts US for top spot in Google Play revenues.  As for Downloads, much has been reported about Android’s sheer growth in smartphone distribution over the last  year. However, the volume of global free downloads is still 10% greater on iOS than on Google  Play. What is noteworthy though is the speed of  Google Play’s catch-up. In the last five months, it has closed the gap significantly by growing 48%  compared to iOS’s 3.3% growth in the same...

HeyZap – Mobile gaming Platform | The XFire for Apps

HeyZap – Mobile gaming Platform | The XFire for Apps

Heyzap to me seems just like the Xfire for apps.  What a brilliant idea.   HeyZap has just announced they are adding player leaderboards that developers can add to their mobile games. Leaderboards for both iOS and Android now include Heyzap’s SDK.   Jude Gomila, co-founder of Heyzap went on to say,   “the integration only takes about an hour. It’s already live with 50 Android games, including GnarBike,Jewel Cut, and Trivia Burst. (Additionally, it has also been integrated into some iOS games, but they’re still going through the Apple App Store approval process.)  ...
