DuoLingo launches iPhone App
If you haven't heard of DuoLingo here's the skinny..
The language learning service Duolingo currently has about 300,000 active users and continues to grow rapidly.
The mobile app just like the web version will be FREE and will help English speaking users learn: Spanish, German, French, Portuguese ..and..Italian rumored to be on its way before the end of the year.
Have a look at their intro video:
I know what you're probably thinking..
Well great, what if English isn't my first language?
Not to fret!
Spanish, Italian and Portuguese natives can use the tool to learn English as well!
While the App is currently only available for iOS they do have plans on launching for Android after the new year.
(If we make it)
Different from on the Web, in the app there is a special type of interface that..
“gives you a word bank and lets you tap words to enter your answer.”
-
"This saves you from having to type on the phone’s relatively small screen."
says Duolingo.
The DAU (Daily Active User) uses the service for about 30 minutes per day.
Unlike other services *cough* Rosetta Stone *cough*.
Duolingo is available for free and teaches vocabulary, reading, writing, AND speaking. It has integrated gamification where, users progress through a role-playing game-like skill tree and earn skill points for every lesson they complete.
Here's to DuoLingo!
