Facebook and Voxer part ways.
Not too long ago Facebook included a major update to their messenger app which gives (gave – they included a newer update since, which allows you to call people in the US through WiFi) facebook messenger the ability to leave short voice messages.
I’m sure it won’t be long before the same thing happens to Zello, and HeyTell (providing they’re engaged in the same type of data agreements as Voxer was).
The move to cut off Voxer (first reported by AllThingsD) is a sign that Facebook won’t be as open about companies using its powerful data. Facebook later told TechCrunch that,
“it won’t give access to data to any company that doesn’t share much back.”
Voxer remarked,
“it doesn’t view itself as a competitor to Facebook and Facebook Messenger.”
Voxer is a San Francisco based startup that’s raised $30 Million in funding from investors including: Institutional Venture Partners, Intel Capital, SV Angel, CrunchFund, Chris Dixon, and Roger McNamee.
