Google Maps coming to an iPhone near you
As said today by a Google spokesman to the WSJ..
“We believe Google Maps are the most comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use maps in the world. Our goal is to make Google Maps available to everyone who wants to use it, regardless of device, browser, or operating system.”
According to inside sources, Google is distributing beta versions of an iOS 6 compatible Google Maps app. The WSJ claims that Google is putting the finishing touches on the app before submitting it to the Apple iTunes store. An Apple spokesman said the company doesn’t comment on apps that haven’t been submitted for approval.
Since the day Apples Maps for iOS was released people have been complaining endlessly about how “bad and inaccurate” it is. Personally, I haven’t really had much issues with it. I have had some but not much. But at the same time, that could be because of the fact that I’m based here in the Bay Area where if Apple doesn’t have their local geographics right then it is most certainly the shittiest maps app known to mankind.
Any way..
Mapping errors, lack of coverage and other issues caused users to feel that the ‘apple experience’ had been downgraded, with Google having more comprehensive coverage and a wider range of features. But, like mentioned above – Google may have a nearly complete Maps app for iOS 6, the company has hinted that it may still be some months before it reaches the App Store, possibly due to reticence from Apple to undermine its own Maps application.
That’s all for now.
