Mobee the Mystery Shopping App that rewards customers for reviewing businesses
Last week as one of my 5 Best Apps of the week..
I featured an App called “MobAdWin“.
To remind you, MobAdwin is an app that rewards users (in cash) for viewing, rating, and providing feedback to the advertisers/business owners ads they see.
THIS WEEK.
Mobee, a new startup based in Boston has just came out of private beta, and is backed by $1.1million in seed funding. While the round has attracted numerous investors from all areas including: IBM, Pinterest, JumpTap, and the like.. That is not the point of todays article.
What I really wanted to do is compare the two to help you recognize, visualize, and conceptualize what opportunities you might see for yourself with this top of trending revenue model that (to my knowledge) 2 companies are already jumping on board with.
Let me start off by describing Mobee in a nutshell..
Mobee rewards users for reviewing businesses. By using a concept of “live missions,” where users are asked to rate anything from wait times to cleanliness, helpfulness or friendliness of the staff, in exchange for gift cards and other prizes.
These rewards could include things like free Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, $5 at Starbucks, $10 on iTunes, $25 on Amazon, $50 at Sephora, as well as the chance to win bigger prizes through a lottery-like system.
So clearly the main distinguishing variable that stands out as that MobAdWin is Pre-loaded CASH debit cards, vs Mobee’s gift cards’
Mobee’s CEO Prahar Shah had this to say,
“We see ourselves as above Yelp, as there’s a little bit more effort in the questions you answer through your mobile device,”
Adding..
“The “questions” are more structured and more specific for businesses – the kind of data that businesses don’t get through Yelp,”
Shah explained that, businesses are more interested in this data because it helps in standardizing their operations and monitor their stories in real-time.
Much like MobAdWin users simply download the Mobee app from the Apple App Store. Mobee then allows them to see the “missions” (local business surveys) consisting of 5 to 10 questions – while allowing Mobee to use GPS tracking to verify the users/consumers were actually present in the store. Additionally, users can take a pic of their receipt to prove they were in that location.
Mobee currently has 5,000 missions underway in the Boston area for places like: Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonalds, Subway, and more.. while the partnerships are still pending until Mobee has sufficient Data the aforementioned companies have already conveyed interest.
If you feel like getting your feet wet with this one, you can download Mobee on the Apple App Store here.
Best,
Kevin
