I almost didn’t feel like posting this this year because I don’t see it as that insightful to developers. I mean, sure it’s great to know how the App Store is performing in terms of the spikes that historically occur over Christmas up until the New Years, but the truth is – this time around, it wasn’t as dramatic as it has been in the past. Thanks to the folks at Flurry for sharing the stats with us. As seen in the chart above the growth rate from 2012-2013 compared to 2011-2013 is substantially less. A mere 25% YOY Growth in Average December Downloads and 11% YOY Growth in...
According to new stats from eMarketer the App App Store has went from 77% to 92% of freemium apps that populate its app store. Google play on the other hand has gone from 89% to 98%. Both App Stores appear to have the same allocation of % to Premum apps and Paid Freemium apps with Google Play 1% Paid Apps, 1% Paid App with in-app purchases vs the Apple App Store who has 4% for those two areas. While it’s quite known that Google Play has more of a market share than Apple’s App Store (because they have so many more devices) the Apple App Store still retains 63%...
It goes without saying that over the last decade connected devices have become an integral part of Christmas. Certainly one of the most ‘wished for’ gifts, Christmas also serves as the biggest day for new device activations. Indeed, activation’s are known to spike 63% compared to an average day in the first 3 weeks of December. Interestingly, the device with the highest bump this year was not from an Apple device (the iPad) but rather from Amazon. There infamous Kindle activation’s were up 24x above the norm. App Analytics company Flurry believes that price, business model, target market, and form factor all contribute to the big boost in Kindle...
Thanks to the folks at DotComInfoway we have this great infographic to share with you. Admittedly it is a little late given Christmas has come and gone. The great news is that historically app downloads have retained their above average rate until mid January-early February. One thing to note however is the fact that there wasn’t an App Store freeze this year, which changes the dynamic of how much you’re able to monetize as well....
First and foremost, I normally include the screenshots of all the Top Publishers, Top Apps, etc. But it appears as though my ‘PrintScreen’ Button is not having it today, so I’ll have to skip that portion of the article and instead deliver the information through interpretive dance. Not really. But let’s hope by the end of this you know what’s up, and what’s down (in terms of apps and their rankings). First, we’ll take a look at non-game apps, the top 10 Publishers for iOS were: 1) Google 2) Apple 3) Tencent 4) Facebook 5) Baidu 6) Alibaba Group 7) Hightalk Software 8) Bitstrips 9) Outfit 7 10) Microsoft...

With all the craze this year with endless Black Friday deals, you’d be surprised to discover that Thanksgiving actually had more shoppers purchasing things via their mobile device than on Black Friday itself. According to IBM and Flurry, Black Friday mobile shopping was responsible for 20% of online retail sales. On Thanksgiving day, sales spiked to 43% of visits and accounted for 26% of sales.
