With revenue last year above $140 million, Kabam is on the move with a new third-party publishing operation that will be headed by Mike DeLaet, former Mobile Senior Vice President of Global Publishing for Glue Mobile. To-date, Kabam has had massive success in the west with mobile games such as Kingdoms of Camelot – Battle for the North, which was the #1 top grossing iPhone game in the US in 2012. Unfortunately, it has had trouble breaking into the 100 top grossing iOS charts in China and only skimmed it for a couple of days in Korea. This may very well be one of the reasons why they...

BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has said he expects 100,000 apps on board for the US launch of BlackBerry 10 and its Z10 handset later this week. This would be up from its previous 70,000 apps that were available prior to Blackberry 10’s UK Launch at the end of January. Heins, when speaking to the Australian Financial Review emphasised that BlackBerry was working hard to build out its app offering, and has engaged in talks with high-profile companies such as Netflix and Instagram. Saying, “They want ROI on their development dollars as well,” “I think this is a very respectful way of looking at your business, and it is...

According to results from Mobile VoIP provider Rebtel, (who has surveyed smartphone users to determine their data knowledge) has found while consumers like the idea of data, they don’t really know what it means. This is despite the fact that 90% claim data allowance is very important when choosing a contract. Interestingly, more than 23% say they didn’t know app usage can gobble up their allowance and 15.7% said they were unsure. Yet, only 30.4%of respondents have an unlimited data plan, which means, for the rest of you folks who don’t – you’re likely in for some “bill shock” in the near future, especially if you’re a gamer. 1/3rd of consumers...

Generally, I don’t let this type of news snag even a fraction of my attention but after doing some research I thought this was too funny not to write about. So here we go. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has received a patent issued by Twitter that describes: a “”Device independent message distribution platform,” listed as invented by Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone (both co-founders of the social service) do note however, the request was filed in 2008. It basically describes, a way for a message to be sent by various means into a system, without it having to be addressed to anyone specifically, with potential recipients that elect to...

Evidently it does. And, it just had a major update that brings new watch faces, other tweaks to the device. This is the first major software update since its release (more than 1 year ago in April of 2012). In that time it has received one of two minor software revisions. This new update brings with it six new watch faces as well as other tweaks. Perfect timing, as both Apple and Samsung heat up their product development strategy (allegedly) to bring their own devices to the market. The new software update includes new retro, wacky and contemporary watch faces that by default are set to only be visible when the watch is...

Google has officially unveiled Keep via a blog update. The video below goes into more depth on how it works. Currently only available on Google Play (not surprising) it works for devices running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwhich and above. You can access, edit and create new notes on the web at http://drive.google.com/keep and in the coming weeks you’ll be able to do the same directly from Google Drive. Whether or not I think Google Keep is personally better than Evernote, not really. I love Evernote to death, and that’s only because it’s a kick-ass app, that deserves every penny, download, and user it has. However, with this release, Evernote...

A bit surprised when I went over to the (former) w3i blog, I thought that I had saved the wrong bookmark for a second – but then noticed a small little image in the top left assuring me that I was indeed in the right place. The company, (formerly W3i), nativeX was formed in 2000 by Rob, Ryan, and Aaron Weber, three entrepreneurial brothers who created a solution for the distribution of consumer content on the Web. The company captured the attention and the ad dollars of companies like Google, Yahoo!, and Symantec. With 45 consecutive quarters of profitability, nativeX continues to evolve and innovate to create value for...

Mobile messaging app WhatsApp made a big change yesterday. The company (which delivers free SMS-like messages to other WhatsApp users), is said to be moving to an annual subscription model. Where, the first year is free then $1 per year thereafter. While the plan won’t affect current users it will not be without competition. The biggest selling point thus far with WhatsApp has been the fact that their is no in-app advertising. With ore than 100 million subscribers, and 17 billion messages delivered every-day it is regarded as the most popular alternative messaging service outside of Apple’s own iMessage. Which, last year only mentioned it was handling more than...
