Today Flurry started rolling out their user acquisition and crash analytics services. Crash analytics lets developers get automatic alerts on new errors and common crashes. Allowing them to diagnose where these errors are originating from with full stack traces including symbolization. The user acquisition analytics helps app marketers determine their CPA (cost per acquisition) on different cost-per-click and cost-per-install advertising, and e-mail marketing campaigns. They can evaluate the users they get through these different channels based on how long they end up staying with an app, how often they engage with it or how much they spend on it. Both features are free and are part of the same analytics...

When one thinks “mobile games” they usually immediately go in the direction of: Angry Birds, Temple Run, Clash of Clans, – what have you. Well today, I am happy to see that that Lumosity has hit 35 Million users and, as of January, has been adding 100K new users ever-day. The company sit at the #1 spot in the education category of Apple’s App Sore for both Free and Top Grossing. They also have a noteworthy 17 million MAU (monthly active users) in the US. The patent is described as a depth perception system and laser projection. PatentlyApple highlighted the story earlier yesterday with several possiblities of using cameras and a laser source to determine the distance of an object and implement various applications based on detection of depth. It seems like just a couple days ago I was at the Pulse talk on how they built their front end and back end news delivery service, where I met this lovely lady who told me about machine-learning customer service. The idea at the time was pretty interesting as I know some companys have yet to even implement human driven customer service chat features on websites. Sure the feature is quite common on the Web. But how about for Apps? Well, Hipmob is making an effort to become “the premier support service for mobile” Co-founder Ayo omojola noted that, there are plenty of tools like Olark and Zendesk...

Certainly seems like quite a few doesn’t it? Especially when you take into consideration last year (2012) was the year that Smartphones activations hit 1 billion (as well as Facebooks user base). The firm predicts that of those 1.4 Billion smartphones there will be 268 Million tablets, 45 Million Windows Phones, 20 Million Blackberry 10’s, and that Android and iOS will continue to lead the way. ABI Analyst Aapo Markkanen wrote, “The greatest fear for both Microsoft and BlackBerry is that the initial sales of their smartphones will disappoint and thereby kill off the developer interest, which then would effectively close the window of opportunity on further...

While it may seem a little far fetched, a new patent applicaiton published yesterday by the United States Patent and Trademark Office The patent outlines a system whereby a user would post requests for small amounts of cash using their iPhone, where other nearby users could respond to to provide some quick funds in the event that no other option is available. Historically Apple has stuck with either refinements or extensions of their existing technology. This method however, would be an entirely new path for Apple, and it will be interesting to see how it might come to fruition. The patent was originally filed in July, 2011 and...
