Samsung Smartwatch? The Race Begins – LEAKED Photos
Samsung, known for being a ‘fast follow’ company has confirmed today to Bloomberg rumors of it working on a smartwatch to rival the widely-speculated Apple iWatch. Personally, I think once people are all wearing their Google Glasses they won’t have any need to look down at their wrist that much. On another note, what I have been waiting to see for what seems like FOREVER – is: A pair of bluetooth headphones that connects to your ‘SmartWatch’ so when you’re in the gym you can control your music, monitor your workout, and more from your watch and really bring your A-game. No one’s thought of this? Really?
I digress, so any way – much like Apple, Samsung is currently silent about everything except for the fact that they’re working on the device. Samsungs EVP of Mobile Business Lee Young only said,
“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
Slashgear leaked alleged photos of a 500×500 pixel device last month of what could be, the touchscreen device running a new operating system called: Altius
Analysts estimate the smartwatch market to be a $60 billion a year industry. Putting that into perspective, that’s about 16% of the $358 billion handset market that exists now. NPD Group analyst Marshal Cohen told Bloomberg,
“We’re going to see formidable competition coming from many different directions — from device makers, accessory makers, even fashion designers.”
Some strategists such as, OIR chief investment strategist Laurence Balter, believe that Apple should use this as an opportunity to low-ball the entry price to bring on as many into their ‘ecosystem’ as possible.
God forbid this actually happens, and we end up with a landfill full of technologically obsolete devices that were dead before they even hit the market. Time will tell.
