Sensu Brush: Providing a True Painting Experience on Your iPad

Sensu Brush: Providing a True Painting Experience on Your iPad

Sensu Brush – I am impressed.

Before I get into giving you the nuts and bolts (or in this case, bristles and threads) of what Sensu Brush is, and what it does, I want to say that I am astounded that others haven’t thought of this sooner.

Seriously.

I mean, I personally still use my Intuos 3 from Wacom which has served me well for the last 5 years.  Same Pen.  Same Mouse.  Same Pad.  The pricepoint for that tablet however was around $300 when it first came out. and.. I couldn’t exactly just take my pen and start drawing on the pad and expect it to do anything.

The Sensu Brush however.. wow, with an iPad 2 at an entry level price of $399, and the Sensu Brush being only $35 (+$5 shipping and handling).

You can basically get these two great tecnologies for a 1/4 of what it would normally cost you with the only existing competition (I know of as of writing this) which is the: Wacom Cintiq.  Unfortunately, the entry price for the Cintiq’s lowest model is a whopping $999 (not including taxes).  Sure it comes with the Pen, and ‘tablet’ to use it on – but seriously?  That’s basically 3x as much as much for a single function device.  At least with the iPad you can do a heck of a lot more than just ‘draw something’ (no pun intended).

So enough of why I think it’s so awesome..

What is Sensu Brush, and why should you care?

Sensu Brush delivers an authentic painting experience on your iPad. It’s completely portable and includes a useful rubber stylus tip.

While much more can be read on their KickStarter page, the skinny of it all is:

For a price of $34.95 you really can’t go wrong.  Especially when it works not just on your iPad but also on your iPhone and Android-based tablets as well.  Sensu  was developed out of a desire to have an authentic brush to use with  favorite drawing and painting apps on iPhone and iPad.

In search of the right conductive hair, we tested various metal and metallic fibers. None had the true feel of a real artist brush. An old brush-making friend in Japan introduced them to a brand new hair technology being developed for the cosmetic industry. Traditional synthetic brush hair was being infused with conductive properties to help fine powder release from make-up brushes as they came in contact with skin. This synthetic hair could be made in the diameters and tapers we required for Sensu to feel just right.

Like your iPad, the Sensu brush is completely portable. The protective cap becomes the handle for the brush when in use.

And here’s their video!

Cheers,

Kevin
