WWDC 2013 – Day 1 – What Will iOS 7 Mean to You?
Well, if you're a developer quite a few things which we'll get into in just a moment (but there's also a guide just in-case). If you're just a user (like most of us), then you're in for a fabulous surprise. To start off, Siri's Male Voice is now going to be distributed globally (versus just in the UK as it previously was). Second, hold on tight and prepare to be dazzled with the 'fabulous' new design you are going to JUST LOVE (if you're a fashionista - perhaps). So hold on tight, let's get into this.
Are you ready for this?
Before we jump into that, it's worth mentioning that this years WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) sold out in 71 seconds. That's a big deal. Apple also has over 6 million registered developers, and 1.5 million of which (1/6th) were added in 2012 alone.
The App Store also celebrates its 5th birthday next month (July). With over 50 Billion Apps downloaded as well in less than half a decade. There are now more than 900,000 apps in the App Store - 90% of which are downloaded each month. 375,000 are downloaded for iPad alone. With 575 Million Store Accounts linked up to the App Ecoystem, Apple Notes 'it makes it easy for users to buy from them.' With that being said, there has been over $10 Billion paid out to developers since the inception of the App Store. $5 Billion of that was paid out in 2012 alone.
It's more than all 4 other platforms combined.
Sidenote: AnkiDrive is bad-ass. If you haven't checked it out, do it right now. That, and OS Sea-Lion (just kidding).
Over 93% of Users are on iOS 6, whereas 6% are still on iOS 5.
"The biggest change to iOS, since the invention of the iPhone." - Tim Cook
"We see iOS 7 as defining an important new direction, and in many ways - a beginning". - Jonathan Ive.
..A fabulous new direction. That to be honest, looks a little girly. That, I'm sure the tweens will love, (and with over $400 Billion in spending power), it may be a winner.
