Test Flight Alternative – KickFolio app testing service
Kickfolio
is opening up its app testing service to developers today.
In a nutshell Kickfolio offers a way for developers to upload builds of their mobile applications to its platform, allowing others to then interact with the apps on the web, vs having to download a test build locally to their mobile device.
There are certainly competitors in this marketplace like: TestFlight, Pieceable, and AppSurfer – so it’s not like they don’t have their work cut out for them, but here’s what makes them different.
Kickfolio’s uses HTML5, whereas Pieceable (for instance) playable apps were rendered in Flash.
Edward Dowling CEO and co-founder went on to say,
“Their solution was great, but it was not terribly performant,”
“In wanting to build a full-featured platform, we recognized that we needed to get the dependency away from Flash.”
With Kickfolio’s new product, developers can upload a simulator build of their iOS application to Kickfolio.com, fill in some details and then they’ll receive a link to their app’s page in the browser, which is both a shortened and obscured, URL. After that, any tester can play the game or drive the app using their mouse and keyboard, as well as leave comments and feedback on the page.
You’ll also notice on the page you can change the orientation of your layout to portrait or landscape. Embedding functionality is on its way as well.
Dowlings hopes are to: allow people to test apps before they purchase them.
Since opening registration, Kickfolio has had 1,000 invite registrees and 350 user registrations from industries all across the board. The company is currently focusing its efforts on agencies and brands, but welcomes any interested developer.
