What can be learned from Samsung’s “Fast Follow” marketing methods?

What can be learned from Samsung’s “Fast Follow” marketing methods?

It wasn’t too long ago when the iPhone 5 made it’s debut here in San Francisco at the Moscone Center. Nor was it much longer (2 hours) after that debut when Samsung’s CMO Todd Pendleton crafted their first Ad Campaign mocking the iPhone line sitters. Maybe you remember this? Or maybe a better example is this. Right after the Australian Police advised their citizens NOT to use Apple Maps for risk of putting their lives in danger. Evidently some people were being led hundreds of miles in the wrong direction into a ‘desert-like’ environment with no available water.  At the time, Apple was under A LOT of criticism from everyone under the Sun.  Luckily, Google came in and saved the day on December 21st, 2012 (The end of the world, you remember that day?) The take away from both of these publicity stunts and ‘parody’s’ as I look at them is: Any smart marketer can use their competitions flaws to their own advantage. This however does require a bit of creativity...

Global Mobile Ad Revenues to growing at 400% from 2011-2016

Global Mobile Ad Revenues to growing at 400% from 2011-2016

Not to mention they’re expected to hit 11.4 Billion this year. According to Gartner, ad revs were $9.6 billion in 2012 and are set to reach 11.4 billion this year before exploding to 24.5 billion in 2016. Where we stand, the growth is at about 400% from 2011 up until 2016. Research Director at Gartner Stephanie Baghdassarian said, “The mobile advertising market took off even faster than we expected due to an increased uptake in smartphones and tablets, as well as the merger of consumer behaviors on computers and mobile devices. “Growth in mobile advertising comes in part at the expense of print formats, especially local newspapers, which currently face much lower ad yields as a result of mobile publishing initiatives.” Exact figures can be derived from the image...

Unlocking phones without carrier approval ILLEGAL – [Starting tomorrow]

Unlocking phones without carrier approval ILLEGAL – [Starting tomorrow]

Starting on Saturday January 26, 2013, a policy update to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act will make it illegal for owners of new cellphones to unlock their devices unless authorized by their carriers.  If you are in the process of deciding whether or not you should get your phoned unlocked, then I’d suggest DO IT – today.   For those of you who do not have any idea what “unlocking” means it basically allows your phone to be ‘unlocked’ from being with one carrier, and instead use any 3G or LTE signal that is available in your area.  Meaning: you could use AT&T in one neighborhood, Verizon in another, and Sprint in the next.   Approved last October, the new policy applies to newly purchased devices, but not to smartphones owned prior to the deadline. There was a 90-day window in which people could still buy a phone and unlock it, but it closes tomorrow (on January 26). Now, it’s not like it is going to be impossible to...

PreApps to bring App Previews to End Users

PreApps to bring App Previews to End Users

If you’re developing an app your biggest concern, (and probably what keeps you up at night) is: whether or not your app will be a hit.  Or how it will be received by users. Good? Bad? Not at all?  Without launching your app and releasing it onto the Apple App Store, or Google Play marketplace (what have you) there is no way to really “tell” how users are going to take it, and whether or not they will actually like it. Heck, maybe they even have good feedback you could implement while you’re still in development before the app hits the store. Yeah, it’s a shame..there hasn’t been a way to do this. UNTIL NOW   Introducing, Pre Apps With over 1.2 millions apps currently on the market and over 30,000 new apps submitted each month, PreApps is the exclusive place to preview new and exciting apps coming soon. Apple releases Q1 2013 earnings

Apple releases Q1 2013 earnings

To break it down, Apple projected it would do about $52 Billion this quater, Analysts had predicted $55 Bilion in revenue and $13.41 earnings per share with 50 million iPhones, 23 million iPads,  12 million iPods, and 5 million Macs.  Regarding The actual Financial and Device Numbers, here’s how it went:   Money: Revenue: $54.5 Billion Profit: $13.1 Billion Earnings per share: $13.81 Profit Margin: 38.6%   Devices:  iPhone: 47.8 million iPad: 22.9 million Macs: 4.1 million iPods: 21.7 million   When you compare  these numbers to last quarters (Q4 of 2012): 27 million iPhones and 14 million iPads With revenue of $36 billion and profit at $8.6 billion.   For a company that’s ‘supposedly struggling’ and whose stock prices shed near $200 billion from its $700/share high in September, I’d say Apple’s  tremendous growth over the previous quarter proves it’s doing pretty...
