Posted by on Jan 9, 2013 in Mobile | 0 comments

But who really cares about windows any way right?  I mean, as a Developer why would you want to waste your time with a market that is a fraction of a fraction of the competitors (Apple App Storea and Google Play Market).  Well, surprisingly enough – there are a number of reasons.  And instead of trying to explain it to you myself, let me introduce this great Infographic brought to you by the folks at Pocketgamer.biz.  ...

Appboy launches customer segmentation for Mobile App Developers

Posted by on Jan 9, 2013 in Apps, Mobile, Startups | 0 comments

After reading a horribly written article on Tech Crunch that just goes waaaay too much into details, I thought I’d elucidate my findings and give you the skinny of how Appboy can be useful to you as a developer. But first, who/what is AppBoy?   Appboy is a customer relationship management platform for mobile apps that combines messaging, audience segmentation, analytics, and user support in a single, integrated solution. To avoid boring you with everything that Appboy allows you to do, let me provide a summation instead. Appboy allows you to seperate your sharers from your spenders and your influencers from your fans.  Wouldn’t it be great if you...

Posted by on Jan 9, 2013 in Mobile | 0 comments

Onavo (a Sequoia backed company) tracks the usage of millions of apps through its mobile data compression products.  Onavo compares the market penetration rank-the top grossing charts. Unlike companies like Flurry, Onavo creates consumer-facing products and doesn’t work directly with developers, the company can publish data on active usage for specific apps. After monitoring the game usage among U.S. iPhone users in November they looked at the market share, or the percentage of their U.S.-based iPhone owners that use these games on a monthly basis.   I.e. (In the chart below) They found that Angry Birds Star Wars was being actively played by 3.9 percent of U.S. iPhone owners...

Apple working on less expensive iPhone [Rumor]

Posted by on Jan 9, 2013 in Apple, Mobile | 0 comments

As reported several times over the last few days by the Wall Street Journal: the plans for developing a new cheaper version of the device apparently have now advanced. “The cheaper phone could resemble the standard iPhone, with a different, less-expensive body, one of the people said. One possibility Apple has considered is lowering the cost of the device by using a different shell made of polycarbonate plastic. Many other parts could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models.”   The real question is, will this cheaper version of the iPhone have the same screen dimensions as the current iPhone 5?  Will it be smaller (reverting...

Chartboost raises additional $19 Million from Sequoia Capital

Posted by on Jan 8, 2013 in Mobile | 0 comments

The additional funding is said to be used for: further product development (more so in the areas of in-app monetization and analytics).Chartboost was founded in 2011 by Maria Alegre (CEO) and Sean Fannan (CTO) both former Tapulous employees.  Chartboost is not just another ad network, but a technology platform providing free ad-serving technology. Developers can use Chartboost’s SDK in their own apps to promote other apps for cross-promotion purposes.   Chartboost gives developers the ability to have their apps displayed in a way that is outside the norm of simply searching for it via the keywords, and having it show up in the “list”. Users discover developers apps (primarily...

Facebook Messenger latest Voice message feature

Posted by on Jan 4, 2013 in Apps, Mobile | 2 comments

Evidently I wasn’t the only one to notice seeing as 9to5mac just wrote an article on  on Faceboks latest update to their Messenger app.   What’s New in Version 2.1 – Send a quick voice message when you have more to say – Call friends for free right from Messenger* – Other improvements and bug fixes   Among other things like bug fixes and what not, the main update here is their voice message feature.  Creating this type of feature while certainly appealing (to me at least) also means they’re going to be competeting with other apps ike Voxer, Zello, HeyTell and more.. It will be interesting to see...

iOS, Android, and the rest better watch out with Ubuntu looking to disrupt the market with it’s own OS for mobile phones in 2014. I have to say, from what I’ve seen SO FAR. I like what I see, take a look. CEO Jane Silber said, “We expect Ubuntu to be popular in the enterprise market, enabling customers to provision a single secure device for all PC, thin client and phone functions,” “Ubuntu is already the most widely used Linux enterprise desktop, with customers in a wide range of sectors focused on security, cost and manageability. “We also see an opportunity in basic smartphones that are used for the...
