As FlightPath Enters Beta so Launches Measure for Mobile Apps

Earlier today TestFlight announced a new product that goes by the name of FlightPath, aiming to be be a simple mobile analytics solution for developers.  If that wasn’t enough, today Quantcast is launching a new service today called “Measure for Mobile Apps“, as its name implies – it retrieves data for publishers on iOS and Android. While I haven’t been the biggest fan of Quantcast in the past, I should mention the features they’re offering: • Showcase Your App Stats – Get the word out on your app by displaying your traffic data and usage metrics on Quantcast, and make your metrics accessible to everyone. According to new research from Juniper Research, the firm has predicted that tablet gamers will spend $3.03 billion on in-game purchases in 2016.  More importantly  Juniper expects the majority of this tablet gaming revenue to come from the Far East and China, with its share of the $3+ billion being near 75%. Juniper does mention however, that North America is to retain its spot as a clost second in the world o in-app purchase revenue. If you haven’t heard of TestFlight you’ve probably been out of the loop, or living under a rock.. so I’ll fill you in before we get into this.  Test Flight was one of the pioneers in the ‘Testing of Apps’ business.  Originally creating an online platform that allowed App Developers to upload their builds and then send out private invites to their friends, family, whathaveyou – this service was available for both iOS and Android developers for the grand total of FREE. Basically all you had to do was.. Set up TestFlight Distribute your Beta Analyze the usage and Improve our app based on that data/information.   TestFlight attracted companies from all over including: Adobe, Disney, Spotify, Discovery, Openfeint, Mtv, Fandango, posterous, pandora, nimlebit, tumblr, instagram, caa, tapiy, social  gaming network, and more..     So now, what makes FlightPath so cool?  Well, a beautiful dashboard for one.. Kabam Prepares for Global Expansion with Glu SVP Mike DeLaet

With revenue last year above $140 million, Kabam is on the move with a new third-party publishing operation that will be headed by Mike DeLaet, former Mobile Senior Vice President of Global Publishing for Glue Mobile.  To-date, Kabam has had massive success in the west with mobile games such as Kingdoms of Camelot – Battle for the North, which was the #1 top grossing iPhone game in the US in 2012.   Unfortunately, it has had trouble breaking into the  100 top grossing iOS charts in China and only skimmed it for a couple of days in Korea. This may very well be one of the reasons why they want to bring someone onboard who knows what they’re doing, and have them path the path. China currently has the 2nd biggest smartphone market, with UK in 3rd. Blackberry Expects to have 100,000 Apps on Board by Z10’s US Launch

BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has said he expects 100,000 apps on board for the US launch of BlackBerry 10 and its Z10 handset later this week. This would be up from its previous 70,000 apps that were available prior to Blackberry 10’s UK Launch at the end of January.  Heins, when speaking to the Australian Financial Review  emphasised that BlackBerry was working hard to build out its app offering, and has engaged in talks with high-profile companies such as Netflix and Instagram. Saying,   “They want ROI on their development dollars as well,” “I think this is a very respectful way of looking at your business, and it is our job to convince them that BB10 is a successful platform.” When talking about Apple,  Heins was open to  share his feelings on Apple’s position in the smartphone market.  Explaining that the new wave of high-end smartphones such as the new Samsung Galaxy S4 have eroded the lead Apple once had, both in terms of market performance and design quality....

Nearly 25% of Mobile Users Don’t Realize Apps Gobble Data

According to results from Mobile VoIP provider Rebtel, (who has surveyed smartphone users to determine their data knowledge) has found while consumers like the idea of data, they don’t really know what it means.  This is despite the fact that 90% claim data allowance is very important when choosing a contract. Interestingly, more than 23% say they didn’t know app usage can gobble up their allowance and 15.7% said they were unsure.  Yet, only 30.4%of respondents have an unlimited data plan, which means, for the rest of you folks who don’t – you’re likely in for some “bill shock” in the near future, especially if you’re a gamer. 1/3rd  of consumers thought that 1GB of data would allow 10 hours of mobile video viewing.   Unfortunately, they’ll likely be disappointed to hear they’d only receive around 2 hours worth. 41.5% added that they’d be ‘likely’ or ‘very likely’ to consider only buying data from operators in the future to use VoIP apps like Rebtel and Skype to make voice calls.  ...

Generally, I don’t let this type of news snag even a fraction of my attention but after doing some research  I thought this was too funny not to write about.  So here we go.  The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has received a patent issued by Twitter that describes: a “”Device independent message distribution platform,” listed as invented by Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone (both co-founders of the social service) do note however, the request was filed in 2008. It basically describes, a way for a message to be sent by various means into a system, without it having to be addressed to anyone specifically, with potential recipients that elect to receive messages from the sender having the update delivered to them.   It is said that this patent, as well as another for the “Pull to refresh” action (which is now almost a ubiquitous standard in UI/UX design) are currently pending, but potentially valuable to the company.
