iOS Devices Approved for Use on US Military Networks

iOS Devices Approved for Use on US Military Networks

Spotted earlier by 9to5 who has been following reports all month on the Department of Defense and the process of approving iOS 6 for “non-classified communications and widespread use by government agencies,”. Today Apple has been officially granted approval. One thing that can’t help but cross my mind is: “Isn’t iOS 7 just around the corner? I mean, if it took them this long to get it approved and now it’s already out dated..” While both Samsung and Blackberry have been approved for some time it was in February that the US Defense Department confirmed its plans to open up their network to 100,000 new devices from both Apple and Google. At the the time, the Pentagon’s network consisted of about: 470K Blackberrys, 41K Apple products, and 8.7K Android devices. There was however a large shift from Blackberry to iPhones over just this last year, and surely many more to come as of this...

Not So BREAKING News – Apple Hits 50 Billion App Downloads (first day of I/O Conference) Google Hits 48 Billion w/ 900 Million Activations.

Not So BREAKING News – Apple Hits 50 Billion App Downloads (first day of I/O Conference) Google Hits 48 Billion w/ 900 Million Activations.

Yesterday Google Announced it had reached 900 Million activation  Up 400 million from this time last year. Earlier this year Eric Schmidt even said: “we’re seeing around 1M android activation’s a day“. As a result of these activation’s there has been over 48 Billion app installs for developers who use Google Play. Working hard to sway developers to choose Google Play as their first OS over iOS, we’ll see if this in addition to their new Play Games Services will do the trick. Android and Chrome Lead Sundar Pichai said: “Android started with a simple goal to bring open standards to the world. Today, it is the most popular mobile operating system in the world.” The company was also quick to make clear that there are 7 billion people in the world, so they have a long way to go as far as installations are concerned. These last couple days have been very good for Google, particularly in terms of their stock which was at around $915 in after-hours trading yesterday, up from $835 before the...

Apple Expands on Developer Regulation 2.25

Apple Expands on Developer Regulation 2.25

So you’ve probably heard more than a few times by now about what happened with App Gratis, mainly – Apple removing their app from the App Store for being in violation of developer regulation 2.25, which states: “Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected.”   While no official announcement by Apple has been made, it can be assumed that apps are now liable to be rejected if they feature any type of: filtering, bookmarking, searching, or sharing of recommendations.  The folks over at PocketGamer.biz note being contacted by one developer whose app discovery tool has recently been blocked by Apple because it included such features.  That being said, it’s evident Apple has expanded on 2.25 to cover sharing via email or social networks. The ability to search the App Store using 3rd party apps also now appears to be restricted. The developer mentioned above had this to say:   “I...

Apple Breaks Top 10 at #6 Spot on Fortune’s 2013 500 List

Apple Breaks Top 10 at #6 Spot on Fortune’s 2013 500 List

Up from no-where-close to that last year (17th), Apple has broken into Fortune 500’s Top 10 (at number 6).  Fortune notes: “Apple is bigger than ever,”.  Facebook also made their first appearance on the list. Also adding, that while the company has “maintained more than disrupted” its product line, and even had to apologize for iOS 6 Maps and its Chinese warranty services, it “remains an innovation icon.”   Taking the #1 spot again is Walmart, with revenues of $469.2 billion, and profits just under $17 billion. Other companies to make the top 10 include: For other high-tech companies on the list: AT&T at 11th HP at 15th Verizon at 16th Microsoft at 35th Amazon at 49th Facebook at 482nd.   I suppose in some sense it’s refreshing to look at this top 10 list and remember that there are other industries out there than tech.  With that being said, I think that by understanding where these emerging industries are opens up even more opportunity for entrepreneurs to see...

Apple App Store Nears 50 Billion App Downloads

Apple App Store Nears 50 Billion App Downloads

And to celebrate, they’ll be giving the winner (who has the 50 billionth download) a $10,000 Apple Store Gift Card.  Additional runner-ups that are between 50billion and 50 billion and 50 will also receive a $500 App Store Gift card. Regardless of what you may think about Apple, it’s more than apparent that they’re pretty generous when it comes to hitting public milestones.  Naturally, from a marketing perspective it’s only to their benefit to turn this type of company milestone into an event to get customers excited about “what’s still to come”.   The company has also released the UK’s Top All-Time most popular free and paid apps: Top All-Time Paid Apps – iPhone: 1.     WhatsApp Messenger 2.     Angry Birds 3.     Doodle Jump 4.     Fruit Ninja 5.     Cut The Rope 6.     Angry Birds Seasons 7.     TuneIn Radio Pro 8.     MONOPOLY 9.     Draw Something 10.   Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock Top All-Time Free Apps – iPhone: 1.    Facebook 2.    Skype 3.    eBay...

10,000 iPhone 5’s Falling Like Dominoes

10,000 iPhone 5’s Falling Like Dominoes

Saturday afternoon, and nothing to do eh?  Well, maybe you could start off your day by watching this AMAZINGly well thought out Domino sequence by the folks at Aatma Studios. What you may be surprised to realize is that all these phones are actually CG (computer generated).  So, yeah – the company didn’t actually go out and BUY 10,000 iPhone 5’s, (that certainly wouldn’t be cheap).  CEO Pramod Modi Shantharam said, “Except for the first iPhone that is set off, every other phone you see is computer generated,”  “We modeled, animated and rendered the CG phone where the footage was first motion-tracked and the CG phone was composited over it.”   Also adding, “We’ve been known for visualizing unique concepts for iPhones and iPads on our YouTube channel,” “This time, we wanted to stretch our creativity and deliver something that’s almost as entertaining as an advert. We think if the iPhone 5s were to have NFC, this concept commercial could be a unique way to promote it.” “The end...
